A new roof and lots of beams

The new roof

The new roof

So we come to the end of 2020 having made great progress. We have been very lucky to be able to continue working whilst the world fell apart.

One half of the roof of the main house is now complete. After the original flat tiles and the new insultation layer were installed, the original roof tiles were put in place. It now looks fantastic and so different to the mess that was there at the start. The insulation meant that the edge tiles needed to be rebuilt and there was some debate as to the best style but we are very happy with the result.

As you can see, the weather has been perfect!!

The second big change this month has been the new beams for the first floor in the main house and for the courtyard rooms. These are new laminated beams that replace the old beams that sadly were deemed not strong enough. The red tiles between the beams are the traditional curved tiles that are used in many Spanish houses.

Starting to feel like a room!

They have also added a set of steel re-enforcing beams in the main house. This was a dramatic day of high speed activity with 9 people lifting, cutting, welding and plastering! It looked like chaos but was actually very well organised.
